A new, locally brewed kombucha, called Camana Booch, has launched in Grand Cayman. It's a wellness drink developed through a partnership between Camana Bay and Jessie’s Juice Bar, a long-time Town Centre tenant.
Crafted in small batches, Camana Booch debuted at pop-up events in Camana Bay. While there are currently no permanent retail partnerships, Camana Bay is exploring future availability based on strong early interest. The drink is part of a limited-release strategy that highlights sustainable local ingredients and collaboration between local businesses.
“Jess [co-owner Jess Hewitt] has been making kombucha for over 15 years,” said Lachie Hewitt, co-founder of Jessie’s Juice Bar. “Before we opened Jessie’s, she was making kombucha and selling it at the farmers market, using recycled wine bottles from the restaurants in the Camana Bay village.”
The latest batch of Camana Booch features sorrel flower, a locally grown botanical that gives the drink its deep red colour and bright, floral-citrus flavour.
“Jessie’s kombucha partnership with Camana Bay was an opportunity to feature something we’ve been passionate about for a while — brewed and bottled locally using sustainable practices,” Hewitt said. “This latest batch featuring the sorrel flower has a fantastic floral and citrus flavour. We love this magic brew.”
Now we do not claim immortality, but it is a very healthy drink and a great alternative to drinking soda.
Kombucha has a history dating back more than 2,000 years. Believed to have originated during the Qin dynasty in ancient China around 221 BCE, it was once referred to as the “tea of immortality.”
“Now we do not claim immortality, but it is a very healthy drink and a great alternative to drinking soda," Hewitt said.
The health benefits associated with kombucha include aiding digestion, detoxifying the body, boosting energy levels and potentially supporting the immune system and heart health. It’s a natural fit for Jessie’s Juice Bar, which has built a reputation for offering wellness-oriented products made with fresh, organic ingredients.
Camana Bay has described the drink as a “wellness-inspired sip designed to surprise and delight,” aligning with its broader goal of supporting local entrepreneurs while providing innovative, healthy options for residents and visitors alike.
Camana Booch will appear at seasonal pop-ups and special events. Camana Bay encourages those interested to stay updated through its event calendar and social media channels. For now, fans of kombucha can expect future batches to highlight more local flavours and ingredients as the collaboration evolves.
